Oh man, I've been trying to get this post up for almost a week! Sorry for the delay. Busy busy times!
Last weekend, we went to Repticon, which is a giant reptile convention. It was so much fun! As soon as we walked through the doors, we were greeted by sweet reptiles :)
I immediately went to find the booth that my friends, Josh and Cheryl, were hanging at. They are avid snake people, and call themselves the Punk Family Zoo. I think visiting with their snake family was really what made me fall in love with snakes. I never saw snakes that have such great personalities. Maybe it was because I never took the time to visit with one.
I also was excited to track down the Punk Family Zoo because I knew that they had begun to breed some of their snakes. They had a whole litter of baby snakes that I had been following the progress of since they were born. (Did you know boas do NOT lay eggs? They have live births!)
Here are the babies...
I initially was interested in the white group, but as soon as I approached the table, I was drawn to that little nugget of snake in the front and center.
They set her aside for me while we cruised through the rest of the convention.
We ran into a few good friends, including Becca (from KnifeGirlIcebox) and her family...
Me and my little buddy :)
There were lizards of all sizes and colors...
The babies were so cute! I love how big their heads look compared to the rest of their body.
There were a lot of cool turtles there too, as well as tortoise races.
Haylie and Wyatt each got one of these little guys. They are baby red-eared sliders. Haylie named hers Xbox
So many cool critters! I love chameleons and salamanders.
I think I was most impressed by the beautiful snakes.
However, none of them were as beautiful and sweet as this little lady!
Meet BB, our new baby red-tail boa :)
She is so rad! We immediately took to each other. I've never held a baby snake before. She is SO soft, like her scales haven't fully developed and hardened yet. She is so curious and loves to explore. She likes to crawl into my hair and sleep.
I think all animals pick up on vibes. I've always believed that you can really tell what kind of a person someone is by how they treat animals, and how animals react to them. I think snakes are kind of the pinnacle example of this. I mean, dogs will like just about anyone that is feeding them. Snakes, on the other hand, can sense danger and safety. BB knew immediately that she could trust me and that I would protect her. It's interesting. I'm so happy to have her.
